Do you want to have a stress free time as you fill our your medical school application?
The medical school application process can be as stressful and stress free as you make it. What matters is that you plan ahead of time and not procrastinate. Where are you applying? First, you need to understand what schools you are applying to. Are you applying to allopathic or osteopathic medical schools? Allopathic schools have their own separate application, called the AMCAS (American Medical College Application Service). The osteopathic medicine application is through AACOMAS (American Association of Colleges of Osteopathic Medicine Application Service).
Click here for information about Osteopathic Medicine
Texas: The Lone Star and the Lone Application Finally, Texas, does their application separately from the other 49 states: TMDSAS (Texas Medical and Dental School Application Service). If you want to apply to allopathic or osteopathic medical school in Texas, you need to do it through TMDSAS. What you need before applying Second, you need to have the following ready as you apply:
- transcripts from all institutions that you ever went to (including community colleges you attended during high school)*note: if you went to a community college and withdrew a class, so you never got a grade on your transcript, you needto report that as well. It is highly crucial that you include everything.
- personal statement
- list of awards/accomplishments/activities
You will send transcripts to AMCAS (for allopathic medicine application) or AACOMAS (for osteopathic medicine application) directly. Personal statements and all other information will be entered through the website. This is critical! Also, it is critical that you be honest with EVERYTHING in the medical school application process, even misdemeanors and whatnot. If you do not include it, that is considered lying by omission. They will find out and if they do, you can have your acceptance to medical school revoked, or even worse, let's say the committee never finds out until your a doctor, your license can be revoked as well. It's best to accept any mistakes you've made in the past and own up to it. That looks much better and shows that you're mature.
Getting Secondaries Once you have completed your application, the different application services will forward your application to schools that you wish. Those schools will either send secondary applications or reject you or put your application on hold. Each school has their own way of sending secondary applications. Some schools will send secondary applications to those who meet a specific GPA/MCAT cutoff. Some schools will send secondary applications to everyone. So make sure you fit the GPA/MCAT average before you send secondaries to schools who send it to everyone because not everybody who gets a secondary has an equal chance of being invited for interviews. Getting Interviews If you were invited for an interview. Congratulations! That means you looked good enough on paper to be met in persons. The Final Step After the interview, you will finally find out if you will be accepted to the medical school. The medical school applicationprocess is long and emotional so it is important to have a support group throughout the year.
