Your Caribbean Medical Schools Guide Part I
Considering the competitive nature of medical school admissions, Caribbean medical schools might be right for you, but I would like to share a few things before you consider doing so. The Big 4: Recommended Schools
First, not all Caribbean med schools are accredited. So be sure to attend a school that gives you a MD that counts. Otherwise, you’ll have wasted four years of studying and tuition. The Big 4 Caribbean med schools are:
These schools are accredited and approved and have a reputation for sending their students to do residencies in the United States. Also, the Caribbean schools start classes three time a year: spring, summer, fall (unlike the States where they start class once a year) so make sure you’re aware of this when you apply.

GPA and MCAT
To apply to Caribbean medical school, you should have at least a minimum GPA of 3.0 and a MCAT score of 24.

Residency
There are three ways to get a residency position in the US: 1. ECFMG certification *ECFMG= Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates* Foreign medical graduates (FMG)/ International medical graduates (IMG) are required to take three exams before they can secure a residency spot in the United States. The first two are USMLE Step 1 and Step 2. The third exam is the ECFMG exam. This is a difficult exam, but it is required if you want to take part in the match and consequently do your residency in the states. Check out www.ecfmg.org for more info
