Do you want to know the average MCAT score needed to go to medical school?

Allopathic (MD) Statistics

In 2008, the average MCAT score of students who applied was 28.1. The individual scores were:

Physical Science (PS)= 9.3,
Verbal Reasoning (VR)= 9.0,
Biological Science (BS)= 9.8,
Writing Section (WS)= P

The average score of students who were accepted and matriculated into medical school was 30.9. The individual scores were:

Physical Science (PS)= 10.3,
Verbal Reasoning (VR)= 9.9,
Biological Science (BS)= 10.7,
Writing Section (WS)= P

If you notice, the average score of those who applied is slightly lower than those who got accepted. In general, as you're preparing to take your MCAT, try to aim for the average scores of those who matriculated into medical school.

The source of the average scores is AAMC.

Knowledge is key...to success...

Osteopathic(DO) Statistics

In 2007, the average MCAT score of students who applied to osteopathic / DO schools was 23.36. The individual scores were:

Physical Science (PS)= 7.46,
Verbal Reasoning (VR)= 7.60,
Biological Science (BS)= 8.30,

The average score of students who were accepted and matriculated into a osteopathic medical school was 25.52. The individual scores were:

Physical Science (PS)= 8.18,
Verbal Reasoning (VR)= 8.52,
Biological Science (BS)= 8.82,

The average writing scores were not available, but in general, you want to score N or O. These are national averages for the writing section. As long as you get average scores for the writing section it won't hurt you. Even getting a perfect score of T won't help you. If can only hurt you if you get anything lower than N.
